Recently, as we were updating our project files, we came across one the many projects The Ives Group team has designed for X-L Plastics in Clifton, New Jersey. In its early years on Clifton Blvd, in the 1980’s, manufacturing demanded the installation of huge extruders which just could not fit into the building envelope. We raised the roof of the facility to accommodate the equipment and later designed foundations for a new silo and a complete renovation of the offices and the building entrance. Above is a fascinating picture showing how a whole new structure can be stitched into an existing building envelope, all the while coordinating their existing operations as the frame went up simultaneously.
It just goes to show that sometimes the most frustrating situations for the owner of a building, as well as the architect chosen to solve a particular problem – can be quite satisfying when the project exceeds everyone’s expectations.
