The Ives-Montoro Group Collaboration
The Ives Architecture Studio is a long time partner of The Montoro Architectural Group. A partnership between John Montoro, AIA and Joel Ives, AIA provides our clients with the collective expertise of both firms for specialty projects.
The following are just some projects that have been produced by this long standing collaboration:
The addition to the Saddle River Day School was designed by John Montoro, of the Ives-Montoro Group, who acted as the lead architect. The project called for a 3400 SF footprint on two levels. The addition was connected to the existing school through a corridor and included; a World Science Room, Library Room, 4th Grade Classroom, and an Art Room. A reception area was renovated within the existing structure to accommodate the addition. In order to contain the budget provisions were made for a future meeting room, elevator and rest rooms which will be constructed as the funds become available. The cornice details, building lines and color were an economic solution designed to be in harmony with the existing stone structure.
The Ives Architectural Studio working with John Montoro, AIA was called in to design a new synagogue for the B’nai Torah congregation after they suffered a disastrous file that destroyed their synagogue. The insurance settlement limited the construction funds to $1,000,000. Our team used standard house components and designed a 50 feet by 100 feet building to fit within the budget so the congregation would not have to deal with a mortgage. The building was designed to add classrooms in the future when funds were available. The beautiful ark and wooden pews were obtained at no cost from a synagogue in Brooklyn that was no longer in existence.
Cleveland School K-8 Addition
This project was to convert an existing elementary school into a combined elementary and middle school. Eight adjacent properties were acquired and incorporated into a new master plan for the entire site. The new middle school is located in the addition, while the elementary school was completely renovated to accommodate separate access points and classroom floor levels for different grade levels. Building upgrades include a new cafeteria with a full service kitchen, a new A/C system for the entire complex, and a new full-size basketball court for the middle school. The existing classroom layouts were all updated and re-organized, allowing the classrooms in the basement to be relocated to the upper levels. In addition, a state of the art media center was also provided. A new main entry was provided through the new building as part of the master plan, and the circulation through both buildings was streamlined. The addition of a new elevator between the two buildings provides access from both buildings to all floor levels, while still maintaining a separation between the elementary and middle school students. The master plan takes full advantage of the expanded site, incorporating a new, 44-space parking lot, a new playground for the middle school, and a modernized playground for the lower grade levels.
