Rockaway Beach House
Rockaway Beach, New York
Tony Kowidge, while working with Ellis and Donnelly Studios in Brooklyn, NY, was part of the design team with Benjamin Ellis and Kenny Payero that completed this amazing beachfront residence for a young family. Taking an unfinished half built home, sitting just steps from the beach, and charged with making a timeless modern home was an opportunity few architects will shy away from. Using reclaimed teak, old fashioned boat fasteners, industrial metal grating, heated floors, and an indoor pool – the design team was able to create a Wright inspired open floor plan using modern materials. Resilient finishes, rot resistant woods and exceptional drainage systems lent the house an exceptional durability to the harsh elements of the oceanfront, as well as an active family.
