FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Michael Sackler of the Ives Architecture Studio (TIAS) in Fair Lawn, N.J., has earned LEED® Professional Accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This prestigious designation distinguishes building professionals who possess the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED Certification process.
Sackler passed a challenging, highly technical examination to achieve LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) status. According to the USGBC website, LEED APs have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Green Building Rating System. The program launched in 2001.
“TIAS has always focused on sustainable, ‘green’ design. In the past, we have incorporated the concept in our designs, but today we are seeing increased interest from the client side. Having LEED APs on staff here is giving TIAS a real advantage in responding to this growing, Earth-conscious trend.”
Sackler, who earned LEED accreditation is in New Construction and Major Renovations, agrees. “LEED buildings provide lower long-term costs on energy consumption, foster a happier workforce and help the environment,” said the Tenafly, N.J. resident. “The associated cost savings, increased productivity and demonstration of social consciousness are fueling strong demand from major corporate space users.”
Sackler, who has 25 years of experience, specializes in building preservation renovation projects. He believes sustainability will play an increasingly important role in this area. “The idea that an existing building is the greenest type of building holds a great deal of merit,” he said. “The concept of sustainability is evolving to include historic preservation. In this capacity, it is beginning to consider our cultural resources and how to preserve them for future use. We are at the forefront of this exciting, emerging sector.”
One of TIAS’s many goals as a company is to include sustainable design as a part of the design process. The firm believes it is important to help clients understand that every aspect and decision of a project – site selection, orientation, building and interior design, and construction systems – has environmental ramifications. The company has been independently designing energy-efficient buildings and homes and designing modular buildings and exploring recycled materials. In addition, the company is actively involved in historical restoration and adaptive re-use of buildings.
The award-winning, full-service architectural firm brings more than 30 years of experience in architecture, interior design and planning to its clients. One of the most accomplished architectural firms in northern New Jersey, TIAS offers clients a total solution, handling every aspect of project development from concept to completion. This includes site selection, zoning and approvals, building and interior design, and construction administration.Originally issued as press release. Edited and republished here by ives-arch.com.
